The president speaks ...

In a few weeks hackers from all over the world will come together in the last bastion of of independence - the AKK. We will host the biggest GPN in hacker's history. A "hacker" should be a special word to all of us. It's a word we want to carry on to our children and grand children (our backups and back-backups). We won't be disoriented by small differences. We won't fight over operating systems, editors or programming languages. We are united in our common interests and want, from now on, speak the smae language: We fight for our freedoms and we will not vanish neither through persecution nor through repression. We fight for our rights and it is hence no accident the GPN takes place on the 4th of July. This very 4th of July is to go down in history as the 7. Gulaschprogrammiernacht, a day on which all the hackers stand united and declare: "We won't hack anymore in the shadows of the night. We will not vanish. This is our independence day!"

Ein Plakat gab's auch.

Was ist die GPN?

The GPN is a hacker event which espcially cares about coding, tinkering and the creative use of technology. Next to projects started live at GPN there is also suppsed to be a special focus on the idea exchange between hackers, tinkerers and people in general. To make this come true, we prepared a schedule with lectures and workshops and, created cozy sofa lounges and sell affordable cocktails and have information on party venues.

While there is a focus on coding, this doesn't mean the GPN is a only-coder's event. In fact, almost half of the schedule is on diverse topics that vary from society to the most unusual things. Everyone who is even a little bit interested in hacking is welcome to join at their own cost. Knowledge is good but curiosity is better.

You can sleep on-site with a sleeping bag and a sleeping pad, it's possible in and outside :)

Information on food will soon be available.

The event is open to everyone, though if you plan stay a while we'd be grateful to receive a donation of around 15 Euros to get ontop of our expenses to host the event in the first place.

Time & Place

This year GPN takes place from ’’’4th to 6th of June 2008’’’ in the facilities of the AKK on the campus of a university in Karlsruhe (Paulckeplatz 1, 76131 Karlsruhe).

To everyone arriving on Friday, you may want to spawn here from 6.00 PM (if you decide to join us sooner you may help us with build up). On Sunday, we will close sometime in the afternoon, everyone who doesn't run helps with teardown.

If you arrive by car, please consider that you can only enter the campus with your vehicule by night. Parking slots are nearby (Waldparkplatz) Here you also find a ride.

If you arrive by tram, it's best you wait until the station Durlacher Tor (Trams 1, 2, 4, 5, S2, S4 or S5) or Kronenplatz to get off. After this, just follow the street signs to the university. Finally, take a left to the main car entrance to the campus. After 100 meters, take a right to the beer garden behind which, you'll find the AKK. You can't miss the entrance. It's quite a contrast to the otherwise spick and span university buildings.

So, what can I expect?

We want to hack, we want to tinker and we want to explore technology. We hereby invite you to submit your ideas, projects, and workshops, make contacts, in other words, to participate. The schedule develops with every submitted paper and every idea. Some activites we have already collected:
